Hi, we’re Drop.

Our vision is to promote cooking as a joyful experience that brings people together over delicious food.

To that end, we’re applying technology and design to simplify and streamline cooking, making it easy for anyone to take their kitchen skills to the next level.

At the core of our approach is an innovative recipe platform which intuitively guides home cooks step-by-step through finding, making and sharing their delicious dishes and other flavorful creations.

Our focus begins with baking. There are over 30 million bakers in the U.S. alone and for many of them finding and following a recipe is a frustrating process that often leads to unpredictable results. Accordingly, our initial product is the Drop Scale that works with our exclusive Drop Recipes app to ensure home bakers consistently get great results using our specially selected interactive recipes. The Drop Scale is able to rescale quantities, substitute ingredients, offer in-recipe tips and share recipes and photos online. It’s the smart baking assistant at your side, helping every step of the way.

Drop was founded in 2012 in Dublin, Ireland and is based in San Francisco and Dublin.

Ben Harris

Ben Harris

CEO

Ben was born into an entrepreneurial, food-industry family.

As an industrial designer, he has brought countless components to mass production and market in Asia, the UK and Ireland; first making his mark at Lackey, a global leader in postural management products.

Ben went on to establish Dublin product design consultancy White Zebra Studios, which was honored by the Institute of Designers Ireland in its very first year.

Baking
Ben’s favorite creation to bake is a Rhubarb Orange and Ginger Crumble he’s made since he was a boy.

Jonny McCauley

Jonny McCauley

Jonny is the guardian of the Drop brand and apps. His main expertise lies in Interaction, Graphic and Motion Design.

With many years working in the digital media industries of Dublin, London and New York, he’s created everything from websites and mobile apps to tv shows and ad campaigns. In recent years Jonny has served as Creative Director at several award winning agencies in New York and Dublin.

Baking
Jonny’s current favorite to bake for brunch is the “Egg in a Biscuit”–a tasty treat he discovered in San Francisco.

Jack Phelan

Jack Phelan

COO

Jack is a seasoned technologist and designer in software development and engineering who’s designed and built many custom technological solutions over the years–from cycling robots to home automation systems.

He’s worked for Google and most recently served as the Technical Director for the Arts Technology Research Lab at Trinity College Dublin.

Baking
Jack’s love of baking began with his granddad always having a hot fresh-baked loaf of bread waiting when Jack would come to visit.

Tim Redfern

Tim Redfern

CTO

Tim is an interactive developer and digital artist in software development and video processing who has collaborated with filmmakers and musicians to develop highly sophisticated digital video tools.

He’s also served as lead developer in Project Playhouse, which transformed Ireland’s tallest building into an interactive screen for public expression.

Using his considerable kitchen skills, Tim makes a mean Blood Orange Upside-Down Cake.

Pablo Marti

Pablo Marti

Back-end Development & Sys Ops

Pablo is responsible for Drop’s backend and infrastructure. A seasoned software developer who has lived in five different countries, before joining Drop, Pablo worked on a wide range of projects spanning telecoms, web, embedded, enterprise, and sys administration. His latest side project is an arduino autopilot for a boat.

Baking
For Pablo nothing beats an apple custard tart with nuts, his favorite since he was a boy.
